In 2003 I started the biggest adventure of my life by moving from Winnipeg to Japan for a year to teach English. I ended up staying for 3 years and brought back a fiancee. Living overseas was one of the best experiences of my life. At the time I kept friends and family up to date on my adventures with a blog on my private website http://www.barniferous.ca.
At the time I am writing this, it is 10 years after I moved to Japan. I have decided to reblog all of my original posts 10 years after they happened, but this time with some pictures and some extra detail that I didn’t or couldn’t write at the time. The result should be raw, honest, uplifting, funny, depressing, awkward, and hopefully interesting as well.
I have tried to change names as much as possible or assign nicknames where applicable. Please see the cast of characters page for details on who is who. The cast of characters will be updated as the story unfolds.
Other than changing the names and leaving out some of the really personal details, this blog represents my actual adventures in Japan, as I remembered them. I hope you enjoy it!

With Drinking in Japan as a title, I thought this would be a blog by a fellow Australian. Near enough. Thanks for dropping by my blog as well.
I think it will be 10 years before I get to write up all my stories.
